Week 9(:

Job Shadow(:

I am going to the Powell Valley Hospital. When I spoke with Cassie Tinsley, she told me to meet her at the Human resources at 9 to start my workday. She said to wear dress pants and that I could either bring a lunch or eat in the cafeteria. I hope to see what a surgeon or a pediatrician does on a daily bases. Even though it is very far fetched, it would be amazing to sit in on a surgery. Also, I hope to find out the individual im job shadowing's opinion on the best and worst parts of his or her job. By the end of the day I would like to know if I could see myself working there or if it was a lessoned learned that I should never be a docter.(:

60 Minutes(:

1. What is your opinion of the topic of the video? Explain why.
I disagree with insider trading because it isn't fair to let people of higher status get to do it but not others. Also, you take risks when you buy and trade stocks, you shouldn't get hints when others don't. It isn't okay for politicians to lie about weather or not they are participating in insider information and they are making money unfairly which is not okay.

2. What can you do about your opinion? How can you make your opinion count?
I can look into the problems and speak to politicians who are willing to say they are doing it. If I wanted to I could try and band together with others to have the stock act passed.

3. What is insider trading? What was the information that caused Martha Stewart to go to prison?
Insider trading is buying or selling stocks based on information that is unavailable to the public.
Martha Stewart went to jail because she received insider information that ImClone, a cancer drug, was turned down. So, with this information, she sold 4000 stocks of it before the information went out so she didn't loose money.

4. What is black Friday? And when did it get its name? What is cyber Monday?
Black Friday is the Friday after thanksgiving where there are extreme cheap prices that start around 3am so people can start Christmas shopping. On this day, people go crazy and shop till they drop with good sales. Black Friday got its name in 1966. Cyber Monday is exactly like Black Friday but instead of going out to get the good prices, they are on the Internet.

Candy Stock Exchange(:

When Mr. Kapptie told us to grab candy, I reached for anything and everything in my reach. I engulfed it all into me and then set it on the table in "my" space. He showed us prices and told us to trade. I sat there and watched everyone to see exactly what was going on. People were doing the same thing as me, nothing. I thought about how to use my candy to my advantage and how to trade in which others were willing. After I was told that Special Dark would go up, I grouped lower priced candy together and convinced others why they wanted to trade. After a few more trades, I just stopped, I was done. I thought about how I "lied" about not knowing things so I chose not to believe anyones "secrets." People continued to pester me and try and convince me to trade. I had to continue to say no way and not let myself be tricked by their "knowledge". I wanted my candy and no one elses and I didn't trust anyone. By the end of the game, I was pretty sure of my decisions and when I added my candy stocks up, I had around $4,200. I had won the game out of my class. Was there any type of strategy? Not at all. The candy stock game was a very interesting experience and it was very confusing. I had no idea what to trade, what to keep, or even what to do.

Week 8(:

When accounts payable are much higher than reveivable, I loose money.

Accounts receivable: The money that a business is receiving, people owing you money.
I like my accounts receivable to be higher because it makes me more money.

Amoritize: Consolitating your debt, tying your debt together and making only one payment.
When you amoritize your debt, it helps make things more organized and just one payment instead of several.

Economic Index: An index of the economy, what's going on: dow jones.

Journal 7(:

Game Standards(:

1.
Students formulate solutions to economic problems.
The game focuses on this standard in so many different ways.  The game doesn’t technically address just solutions to economic problems but a larger view of an entire process of building and sustaining a hypothetical country. This forces students to realize what all their country requires to stay alive and continue to grow and prosper. This game helps students understand the value of money and what actually needs to be spent.
2.
Students explain how different economic systems are organized for production, distribution and consumption of goods and services.
The different parts of this game make all these pieces known and their relationships. This game helps students understand the production of goods and services through building they should try and maintain, such as the driving school, shoe factory, and post office. This game shows that when you update buildings that the population will grow thus increasing the money intake. This shows the relationship between consumption and production of goods and services.

3.
Students demostrate an understanding of economic principles that influence individual financial planning.
The game holds the idea of having to spend money to make money and this depends on economic principles and economic planning. When students have to build their country up, the game causes them to analyze how much money they will make in return to the money they plan on spending and if they even have enough for a specific purchase/transaction. Also, the game uses financial planning when businesses require the products of others such as electricity must be available to open businesses and windmills are an ecofriendly way to produce that needed electricity.  Everything a student does in this game relies on previous decisions.

4.
Students evoluate the impact of technology and how it has shaped history and influenced the modern world.
This game helps students evaluate the impact of technology and how it has shaped history and influenced the modern world through windmills as an energy source.  The game uses windmills as power instead of a thermal power station. In later levels, students will have access to solar panels and a hydroelectric plant. Because of these resources, in modern life we have been able to gather energy in better environmental ways and will continue to lead us to more energy efficient technologies.

5.
Students analyze current events to better understand the world in which they live.
Every feature of this game helps students understand the world we live in and what a town requires. It shows the money needed for businesses. It also shows what types of things and companies must be available to hire people. But before anything, money must be accessible to pay such employees. Also, this game shows that things that need to be built or need to happen aren’t automatic and take time. This game shows the effort that is needed and time that is needed for a country to succeed.

6.
Students explain how past events impact the present and the future.
This game is plainly based on the idea that past events impact the present and the future. The money a student spends at the moment in the game will affect the amount of money they have in the future.  Also, a student can’t hire an employee unless their necessities are met.  To add, students learn that their choices can either hurt them or help them. Sometimes students over spend their money and can’t build companies that are essential to their town’s success.

7.
Students interpret charts, maps and graphs to answer questions dealing with people, places, events or environments.
The student can look at charts that hold information on what they can build or what they need to move forward. Also, they can look of a map of their country and possible expansion lands. The students can look at maps of Dracula’s country and Mary’s country and get ideas of how to spend their money and how to lay out their own country. They can also look at charts of buildings needed to move to the next level and help their country move forward.  Students have to make decisions that they feel is best for their people and country throughout the game.

8.
Students demonstrate an ability to organize and process information about people, places, and environments.
To build a country, students have to make decisions that will be best for the country and it’s organization.  Students have to think of the position of buildings and parks and roads and where they will be most effective. Students have to think about needed updates on apartments, houses or other such buildings. When these two things are accomplished, more people will turn to their country which will make them more money. This game teaches students that people come to places that hold available jobs, housing and space.

ASSETS: Anything that you can sell.
My car and my house are both assets.

Occupy Wall Street

I disagree with Occupy Wall Street because I feel like a person needs to work for their money and they aren't entitled to anything. So yeah you went to college, good for you. Doesn't mean you deserve money that you haven't worked for and haven't earned. Also, maybe you did go to college but you "can't" find a job, that's an excuse. There are always jobs out there; McDonalds, Maverick, ect. I feel like America is becoming lazy and expecting things they don't work for.

Week 4(:

WHAT IS THE S AND P 500: An index of 500 stocks chosen for market size; it is meant to reflect the risk/return characteristtics of large cap companies.
The S and P 500 is currently up .35%,
WHAT IS THE RUSSELL 2000: An index measuring the performance of 2000 small cap stocks in the U.S.
The Russell 2,000 is currently up 1.22%.
TREASURY BOND: A marketable, fixed-interest U.S. government debt security with a maturity of more than 10 years.
My ancesters left me a treasury bond so I could go to college and live a fullfilled life.

INFLATION: Rising and falling of prices.
The risk of a stock also has to do with the level of it's inflation.

Transaction: I bought 6,500 stocks of AMR (AMR Corporation Common Stock) at $2.76 per stock. It is now selling for $2.96. Since I bought this stock two days ago, I have made $1,300. I bought this stock because it's 52 W range is 1.75 - 8.98 so it has plenty of room to grow. It's competitors, Delta Air Lines and United Continental Holdings costed alot more and had a much smaller gap between the highs and the lows. Also, I predict this stock continue to go up and reach around four or so dollars per stock in the next month.

Monday, October 3, 2011

Week 3(:

Risk: The possibility of loss in an investment
I took a risk when I bought CVX because it was down while it's competitors were up.
Small Cap: A company with low levels of money invested or stock bonds of low value
Small cap companies are often smaller companies.
Mid Cap: A company with average amounts of share capital in relation to other companies
The companies that i bought that are mid cap companies have great room to grow.
Large Cap:A company with a large amount of share capital
Companies such as Walmart and Apple are large cap companies.
1st Transaction:  I sold Barrack Gold. I bought ABX for $53.85 and it's trading price is now $46.21. Over the period of time that i had this stock, I lost $382.00. I think that Barrack Gold will continue to go down and loose me money so before that could happen, I wanted to get out from under it and sell it to make myself money to buy other stocks that I can actually benefit from.
2nd Transaction: I bought CVX(Chevron) for $89.88. Even though Chevron is down, I believe it will go up based on it's max chart. I chose Chevron instead of it's competitors because it has a much higher 52W range of $89.85-$92.77. I bought Chevron at it's lower part of the range because of the money it will make me in the long run. I predict that CVX will go up at least 5 dollars in the next couple of weeks based on the way it has moved up and down on the max chart.

Week 2(:

Dividends: Company profits paid in a fixed proportion, either in cash or more shares.
Stocks that have dividends should be investments, not trades.
Earnings:  Money earned through paid employment, as profit, or from investments.
One of the most important thing to look at is your earnings and whether or not your stock is letting your money work for you.
Private companies VS. public companies: private companies are inaccessible and public companies are open to the public.
New Balance and Puma are private companies while Nike and Adidas are public companies.
Growth Stock: Stock in a company that is growing fast and reinvesting its profits rather than paying high dividends.
If you are someone who likes risk, growth stocks are where you would possibly like to invest.
Transaction: I bought NKE(Nike) at $88.95 because it's 52W range is $69.43-$94.23. So when I bought NKE it was close to the middle of it's range, resulting in the fact that is has a fair amount to grow. Looking at this stock today, the price is $87.99. I have lost $42.75 since the time of my purchase. Even though NKE has gone down, I have reasons to believe that it will get out of it's rut and go up. I know this because it's main competitor, Adidas, has a much lower 52W range and it has gone down much more than NKE. I also believe NKE will go up since it is getting closer to Christmas and people will start buying more apparel and such things for the upcoming holiday. I believe that NKE will go up and hit $93 in the next month. If this is not true, I may have to reevaluate my stock and possibly bye more at it's low price. I bought NKE because it's 52W range and it's stock value was much higher than it's competitors such as Adidas.
2nd Transaction: I bought WMT(Walmart) today for $51.93. Walmart's 52W range is $48.31-$57.90, so when i bought it, it was pretty close to the middle. I bought Walmart because it's max was fairly steady. I believe Walmart will go up to $54 in the next couple of weeks. I bought Walmart because it's competitor, Target, has a much lower trade of $50.23 and it is not very stable. I believe Walmart will go up because as the holiday season approaches, Christmas shopping will begin.

Week 1(:

Stock:The shares of a particular company or corporation.
There are many stocks on the market, including, Nike, Goodrich, and Buckle.
Bonds: A certificate of a specified portion of debt due to be paid by government.
Powell High School was built with the help of bonds.
Dow Jones: Thirty blue-chip stocks listed on the new york stock exchange(how the market is doing)
Today, the Dow Jones was up $37.65.
Equity: The market value minus the expenses.
Before you can gain equity in your house, you have to fix repaires to see how much money you spend on it.
Transaction: I bought GR(Goodrich)at $105.70 because the 52 week range was $70.39-$122.33. At the point of my purchanse, it was close to the middle of the range, thus I know it has great room to grow. Today when I looked at this stock, it was $121.75, towards it's high. Because of this, I know it will surpase it's 52 week range. I know this because, Goodrich bought one of their greatest competitors, United Technologies, taking them off the board and now GR has one less threat. Since GR bought United Technologies, they have gone up and will continue to go up. I chose GR because it has the highest trading price compared to it's competitors and it's 52 week range has an higher price so I will make more money with GR then it's competitors.

.:9-11:.

Personally I think we lost the war. We went into it because of an attack on our country and because of the damage it caused in the heart of America and American families. So, we go into other countries that we think were connected to the terrorist attack and do the same. We kill "guilty" people that hurt us so we hurt them back? I think it doesn't make sense. We are putting ourselves at their level instead of rising above and creating a better world in all. All we are doing is trying to make it right except I feel we are just making it worse and killing many harmless and "guilty" people along the way.  We need to unite with the rest of the world and grow with eachother, not tear eachother down. America will never know peace until we overcome the idea of being the most powerful.

Free Enterprise-

I expect to learn how to deal with my money and make smart decisions with the economy. I also would liike to learn what are the best ways to invest money and get the most out of it.
